PHILLIP SEYMOUR HOFFMAN'S KILLERS ARRESTED

News reports today reveal four individuals have been arrested and stand accused of providing the drugs which killed Phillip Seymour Hoffman.  This is a surprise.  I was under the impression Hoffman killed himself with illegal drugs.  In America's rush to hold no individual responsible for their own actions we will now focus our animus on the drug dealers who held Hoffman down and forced the drugs into his system via needle.  What, they didn't hold him down and force him to take the drugs?  You mean they simply supplied the drugs which he requested.  How are the drug dealers responsible for Hoffman's death when gun manufacturers are not held responsible for over 19,000 suicides with a firearm and thousands of other accidental deaths a year.  It has been reported over fifty baggies of heroin were found in his apartment.  Was his partner unaware of his addiction?  She could not have been because the public was aware of it.  When will they be bringing charges against her for his murder and child endangerment of his kids?
Almost all deaths are a tragedy.  This death seems to be one of these.  Hoffman was an accomplished actor.  I am not attempting to trample on Hoffman's character or legacy.  I am pointing out we have become a country who is addicted to excuses and the avoidance of responsibility.  These drug dealers, probably addicts also, did not kill Hoffman.  If this is the public outcry can the drug dealer not avoid responsibility by claiming they were powerless against their own addiction?  Do we live in a country which imprisons every physician who over-prescribes and results in an addiction death?  Absolutely not!  Evidently we hold our illegal, unlicensed drug dealers to a higher standard than our physicians.
One in five US deaths is a result of obesity.  Will we bring murder charges against Ronald McDonald in the morning?  Approximately 3,500 people die from heroin overdose each year.  More than four thousand die per year riding a motorcycle.  Will we be filing charges against Harley Davidson?  Tens of thousands people die each year in an automobile should we demand the US Attorney General file charges against Chevrolet?  In a country suffering from an obesity epidemic Domino's delivers to your door just like your local drug dealer.  Will Domino's have to defend their self against legal action?  I doubt it.
The cigarette companies had to cough up big bucks for the deaths they caused.  Not because their products killed people but because the cigarette companies hid the fact their products were intentionally addictive and could result in death.  Why do you think the Mad Men were mad?  Hoffman knew heroin killed just like every other American.  He knew better than most Americans.  He had been to rehabilitation.  Hoffman made a bad choice.  One which cost him his life.  One which his family and friends will suffer from for many years both emotionally and financially.
Over the last few days many have been angered at the evil of drugs.  More importantly we should be angry at the consequences of a highly-informed bad decision.  We sympathize with Hoffman because we all have made similar decisions.  Most everyone of us has driven home drunk.  The difference between us dying or killing someone and Hoffman dying is ..... luck.  He had been high numerous times and survived.  This is why he continued.  He had got away with it before.  Just like you have.  But he found his limit and it cost him his life.  It could have been worse.  It could have cost innocents their lives.  Will you be so lucky?
Addiction is difficult to beat much like cancer.  The biggest difference is cancer cannot be avoided for some despite their best efforts.  It happens to occur at random for many.  Drug addiction can be completely avoided.  Don't use drugs and you don't get addicted.  Just imagine if the Center for Disease Control revealed a study which demonstrated only those who drink Coca Cola could get cancer. Would you continue to take your chances and drink Coke?  I doubt it.  But it's difficult to stop using drugs in a country which prescribes them at an unheard of rate and constantly sells the most fatal drug, alcohol, on television and in print.
Just think if my conspiracy friend are right and the government in cahoots with big business is trying to control the population with drugs. This task would be made even easier if they could convince the population that drug use/abuse is not a choice.  If you could convince the population they needed legal drugs through advertisement and once hooked convince the population they are powerless over these drugs would you not have the greatest drug dealer ever?
